Assimilation

*Many of the immagrants had similarities of where they lived and their young age

*Most of the immigrants had to change their old ways to be more "American"

*They even looked down on parents, or grandparents, that continued to practice their ethnic traditions

*Before arriving, women were even more subordinate to men

*Parents even arranged marriagesand controlled their daughters' life until she got married

*Out of choice, or economic necesity, women immagrants left their homes for jobs and began to have intersts outside of their family

*Schools taught English and many boses wanted the workers to speak English in the work place

*Many stores sold american goods (food and clothing)however some small culturized stores exsisted

*Judaism changed, because many religions adopted american ways to make their faith less "foreign"to the dominat culture of a largely Christian nation
