Seizing the Philipines
-navy was the only ones who had a plan
-assistant secretary of the navy Theodore Roosevelt strengthened the navy's pacific squadron
-he also gave advise to the commander Dewey
-he said to attack Spanish naval forces in Philippines in event of war
*Dewey's Victory
-on may 1,1898 he steamed into manila bay
-destroyed the Spanish fleet
-dewey was promoted and 1st hero of the war
-then spanish gave up manila the city
-now insted of freeing cuba it became taking away spanish colonies
-no decicion on what america would do with the new colonies
