] Date Posted: 15:25:53 10/21/04 Thu I think it's time that we all started to concentrate on how to move our plan forward. I have had an idea. I think we need to exhert some political pressure. Here is how to do it. The political party in Britain which best represents our interests and has the most chance of forming a government is the Conservatives. I think some people here tend to be of the Conservative persuasion. For those who are interested, I propose the following: I have been in touch with the UK Conservative Party and they have a Conservatives Abroad membership. Anyone who is interested can be a member. You don't even have to be a British citizen. You can even set up your own branch in your location. I think we should all join this and then we can start to talk to other party members and influence them from within. This can create a Commonwealth-wide dialogue with political influence in London. We can then start to build support for an eventual move towards our federation. We need only discuss the issue at hand and not other party issues. There is no branch in Canada, so I have e-mailed the party and offered to start one. At the same time, I will take out a membership in the Conservative Party of Canada and try to put forward our ideas there as well. At least this puts us in close touch with people around the world and gives us an in with a party that has a chance to do something. Here are the contacts (except those in the USA and in continental Europe). Date Posted: 15:46:57 10/21/04 Thu Yep, this is what I was inferring with my observation of Conservative parties forming across the CW... The UK Conservatives certainly are more receptive to our way of thinking now that the old-guard of has-beens like Heseltine, Clarke et al are taking a back seat. Let's hope they get the power to move in our direction. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 01:38:36 10/22/04 Fri I have been in touch with the Conservatives abroad in Australia about a year ago. Those contacts you posted are out of date I think. The leader of Conservatives abroad in Australia is a Liberal councillor for Woollahra in Sydney's eastern suburbs named Christopher Dawson. It does not appear that Conservatives abroad are very active as he said they never held any meetings or anything like that. He even offered me to take over as leader which I declined at the time. I suppose I could take over but it seems a bit strange someone with no contacts to Britiain joining one of their parties. Date Posted: 00:09:59 10/26/04 Tue David, are you a member of any political party? I had a look at the Liberal Party website, but they don't seem to have any way for people to join up expect through the local branch structure, and I live a bit far away to fit easily into that. I contacted them, but I haven't had a reply yet. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 01:48:20 10/28/04 Thu I am not a member of any political party. I have been in contact with my local Liberal party branch and assisted with campaigning at recent elections, however I am not a member. I will likely join officially at some stage, though. To the best of my knowledge you can be a member without being a member of a local branch. I think the Liberal party has a branch in London, however I doubt they have one in Brazil. You can print out a membership form on the NSW Liberal party website nsw.liberal.org.au I think. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
