I own this flag and it hangs proudly on my wall. But I think that the coats of arms for Canada and Australia are better than the Maple Leaf or constellations symbols.

If we were to use this flag as a basis for an FC flag, I would keep the Canadian, New Zealand and Australian bits as they are, and use the empty space from which the Union of South Africa symbol will have to be removed (*sob*) to put in something representing the West Indies realms. There is royal heraldry for these places too.

Oh, and the Star of India would have to go, too. Ought it be replaced, or left blank in the middle? And if replaced, with what? Perhaps the initial 'EII' (or, after Charles becomes King, 'GVII'), as currently exists in the centre of the royal standards for NZ and Australia and, for all I know, Canada... Thoughts?

Australia and New Zealand's southern crosses are virtually identical, there being only two small differences: their stars are red and ours are white, and we have a little fifth star along with ours. (Our federation star doesn't really count as part of the constellation, because it has no intention of representing an actual star.)

With a bit of luck, we antipodeans will tidy up the unfinished business of our Federation before the FC gets off the ground, and will already be the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand when the time comes to make a CANZUK flag.

Maybe then we will take the average of our constellations and have four and a half pale pink stars...

It has always been my belief that Oz/NZ unification would be the most desirable first step to achieve our aims.

The bottom-up approach to unification always works better than the top-down approach. Just think of the UK, US versus the EU.

The thing is, that I rather like the white stars offsetting the red cross. I don't know why. I'm peering at my flag now and there's something about it which appeals to me. Mind you, if one were to remove the Star of India, the struture would fall and perhaps they would look out of place. Perhaps I should fiddle round with it on MS Paint or something.
