Subject: Sorry, what? The UK is as singular nation as Canada; if the majority felt otherwise, then it wouldn't be.

Besides, even CANZUK is just a convenient shorthand to save us the bother of writing of writing out "Canada, Austalia, Zew Zealand and the United Kingdom" all the time. I don't think that anyone is seriously proposing 'CANZUK' as the official name for a federal commonwealth. Apart from the awkwardness of the acronymn, it suggests the existence of four distinct countries, which is not what it's all about, is it?

I'm not sure whether CANZUK is about four distinct countries, or seven distinct countries, or something (conceptually) beyond. I rather like the idea of a federation of provinces where everyone (Victorian, Scot, New Zealander, Albertan, East Midlander) has the same relationship to a global identity, but I can't help thinking that it is unlikely to start at that point.

Our national identities are already pretty well established emotionally, and I feel it may take generations to build up to another stage. After all, it took time for the australian colonies to feel that they were all "Australian" together.

CANZUK as the official name? No, can't see that. As a common usage? Yeah, why not? I don't think it is so ugly as all that.

I believe Britain to be a single country, not four.
