We could do a commemorative Journal for the dinner. We could get ads from businesses supporting the cause. Each diner would get a copy of the journal.

For those of you who've never seen a journal, it's basically a whole crap load of advertisements for local businesses, local politicos, other area bands, local fraternal org's (masons?) and anyone else we can think of who wants some public goodwill. The politicians are actually the easiest ones because they have a budget for this type of stuff, and are always willing to spend the $250 for a full page ad.

We intersperce (sp?) into the ads each of our bios from the website, maybe 2 per page. We get someone to write up a history of the band and make that at most 2 pages. We include A FEW older pictures of the band on a couple of the pages as well, with captions and years. We make a list/roster of EVERYONE who has ever played in the group.

Then, we invite each of those people to come to the dinner. We can't comp them, so we invite them and a guest, at cost. We explain that in the letter of invitation to them. Further, any of them who would like to play with us at the end of our performance is invited to bring their instruments.

We play our show, take a break. We come back out with anyone who is not currently in the group included and play 42nd/STB, AG, then close with Green Hills, marching out on Battle is O'er.

Naturally, anyone who does not want to play doesn't have to, but extending this out there could potentially get the urges flowing again for some people who maybe haven't picked up their pipes in a while, or were thinking about getting back into piping but just needed a little coaxing.

The journal could be a $$ maker as well. My dad used to run our band's back in NY, and he'd make $$5k-$$7k a year. This was back in the early 80's. The guy after him wouldn't make as much, but he wasn't as much of a pain in the ass as my dad could be.

This just kinda rolled off my head, so I may be missing some major issues, but I've seen this work before.
