actually added on to my garden this year. This year it's about 30' X 62'. I may add more for next year. Most of my rows are three feet apart, and each tomato, cabbage, and cucumber plant is three feet apart in the rows. The onions and the okra plants are closer. The first row was also a cabbage row that has been harvested. I came back with sweet pepper plants planted two feet apart which allowed twelve plants for that row. Keep in mind that these are very young plants and will fill in all the empty areas that you see as time goes by and the plants mature.
I have everything in built up rows except the onions and okra. Each plant is situated in a bowl type indentation that will hold water during a rain or when I feed them weekly with Miracle Grow. This is the first year that I have used extra fertilizer other than what I put down at the beginning of spring. From the way the plants are looking, I will continue to feed the plants every week or so. If the dirt gets a hard crust in the indentation, I take a long bladed screwdriver and poke a few holes in so that the water and fertilizer will get down to the roots. Now, if we will continue to receive rain every few days, I will have plenty of fresh vegetables.
