"Dead Gods" is a misnomer, by the way. It is a title spread by the ignorant masses.... just a warning.

These beings (at least the ones scattered about/dying/dead on the world) were once extremely powerful beings known as the Avatars, or the "Shadows of the Old Ones". The "winners" at first became the embodiment of the forces worshipped by the mortals, and gained immense power. It is as yet unclear why they were gaining this power and what caused the wars. Anyways, the defeated Avatar's eventually came back... and became jealous of the Avatar-Gods' power. Gaea birthed Luna about this time. A new war began, ending in the banishment of the aggressors to a netherworld "Hel", or "Abyss", where they have been imprisoned since then. The suffering of this netherworld twisted these Avatars into the beings known now as the Fiends. The other Avatars, however, were destroyed or spent of power (the mortals too had lost much of their faith, seeing with their own eyes that their "gods" could be brought down and challenged), and their bodies littered Dracnador. A few survived, however, though much reduced in power. Where they went is unknown, but they are now called the Celestials.
