I'm think you're the confused and out of touch soul, here. I think you should do an independent survey of the poor and ask them if they choose to be poor. You've oversimplified the problem, but then I don't sit here surprised at that sort of blase' attitude from the right.

Private charities also tend to operate efficiently because many of their workers are volunteers, too... either way, the problem continues to exist both WITH them and WITH minor government intervention efforts. So leaving the problem solely in the hands of charity organizations isn't the answer.
