Your Shadow

In unfamiliar silence you lay
haunted hollowed eyes stare
lost in frightened ashen face
a sterilised room quite bare.

I cannot help but gasp back
seeing your diminished frame
bones unfleshed rattle lamely
droll humour just the same.

Gone! That booming voice
those dulcet tones resounding
operatic songs throughout
leaving only deep longing.

Better to fly free, soar high
than to this bed tethered be
a last goodbye kiss lingers
no need to worry about me.
