Sea Skiffs where designed for rough water although I personally would not take any less than 25' out onto the oceon. Make sure you have all necessary safety equipment as required by law, plus extra (outboard).
I had my 27' in 9 foot plus waves on Lake Michigan which are short and powerfull and the boat handled excellent. Loved it so much that every time their was a small craft warning I would take her out I had a V-8 300HP in her though. You even stay dry.
These are great boats for snmooth and rough seas.

First off, I am very happy to have found this forum. This thread is of particular interest to me.

We are a family of six with four children ranging in age from 5 to 14. We are looking for a classic utility for family jaunts on the Long Island Sound. Though a light air area, the L.I. Sound can get some serious chop in the afternoon, I am focusing on the Sea Skiff. We love the way it looks, and it is supposed to handle weather well.

I would very much appreciate opinions on keeping the boat in salt water? In our case, on a mooring for up to six months a year. I get a lot of opinions on this one. Though we are fully prepared for the increased maintenance (time and expense) associated with salt water, many think it is a bad idea. Also, is a 21' Sea Skiff large enough for my family? Thank you.
