Subject: Lapstrake restoration techniques

Does anyone know of any publications on lapstrake hull restoration? I'm currently reading Denenburgs new book, but it deals with only runabouts. I have E-mailed Danenburg himself, but we all know he is pretty busy right now.
Any help would be appreciated.

All of the boats I restore are lapstrake, though they are not Chris Crafts, the technique is the same.I follow the Gudgeone brothers recommendations outlined in wooden boat restoration available through west system. First of all, Danenberg means well but he is dealing with another animal, his opinions mean nothing applied to lapstrake construction. This is the short of it, e-mail me and I will give you more detail.Clean out the joints between boards with a hacksaw blade, vacuum profusely.(boat upside down properly supported, make sure boat is level before continuing)Wrap cardboard strips with saran wrap and seal from underneath joint you will glue(so glue does not run down from inside, and it will, just cram the cardboard strips into the cleaned out lap joints 3 foot at a time,or do the whole side)Mix and apply west system unthickened with large hypodermic syringe from top until all joints are full, keep applying it until all joints are full of resin and hardened. After a day of drying sand lightly with 220 and apply west system thickened to peanut butter consistency to joints,(thicken with cabosil or collodial silica)building up a smooth fillet.Do it again the next day. When you flip the boat remove the saran wrapped cardboard strips and fill the top of the joints with unthickened west systme until full. Then apply thickened (use cabosil,or colloidal silica, same thing)to form fillets on inside of joints.Build the fillets dont scrimp, I mix epoxy in small three pump batches. This is the most important thing you can do to restore the integrity to a lapstrake hull,it may ride a little harder, but properly done, will hold a long time and not be noticeable.
