hmmm.... I think people have misunderstood my point. Obviously I recognise that stamina is part of dancing, better dancers get tired less quickly blah, blah, blah. And I know that on the open circuit you have to dance four or five dances in a row. But there are a number of big differences:
1) Because every round is an 8-couple final, music is played longer in each heat.
2) In the open circuit EVERYONE IS IN THE SAME BOAT! In the Varsity match, during the second back to back QS, the couple doing two in a row do two in a row, whilst their opponents are fresh in the second QS having not danced the first one. That's quite different from doing 5 dances in a row against the same people each time. So whilst good dancers will do better than bad dancers of those staying on the floor, this is totally irrelevant because they are all from the same university. They will still not be as good as they were the first time, whereas the oncoming opponents will have an advantage.
The whole Varsity match takes about 25 minutes plus a break for changing. My proposal would only add 12 minutes. The whole day is very short. The match is pretty random as it is, and to add this extra layer of randomness seems silly, especially as it is totally unnecessary.
