The following is to be read in the light of me being of not very high standards and therefore, my comments are unlikely to(and only in surprising cases could they possibly) be intelligible in any way (see the Serpent!)...

How can Varsity indivisual results be fair if the ballroom result "hangs over" (also the Serpent I believe)?.
People of low standards, like me, who happen to concentrate on latin because we are picked for the latin side at the beginning of the year (and for a small person at Oxford there is barely even a choice), will never do as well in comparison to people who specialize in ballroom.

the ballroomers will leave an impression on the judges that counts positively for the latin.
i believe (on grounds of my lowness) that we personally got marked worse than we deserved in the latin once (last year b team). there were ballroomers who got better marks who i believe would not have done if we had started with the latin or if we had had different judges for the other discipline, or indeed if it had been just two couple comparison. as it stands there's not enough time to really look at all couples properly, so the ones average or worse in ballroom but above average in latin will always do worse than people the other way around.

of course the couple being brilliant overall will still deservedly win. and the couple being competent yet not brilliant at the other discipline will too.

anyways, just me.

karen
