I think that it is not only the money involved but also the time taken to get to the comp makes a huge difference to whether people actually want to go or not. It is really hard to get people to come to a comp when they know that they have to meet up for the bus at 5am and they wont get home until 4am!

Thats the sort of timeframe that we had when we go to IVDA when it was held in Stoke (coming from Southampton) so imagine what it would be like if we had to go further north! In order to try to encourage people to go, we stayed in a travelodge the first time that IVDA was in stoke (three IVDA's ago) the team subsidised it (because no one would have paid for it - being poor students) but we had no money left in the bank for anything else ie. dresses, tailsuits etc. Due to the huge expenditure, we didn't stay over for the second time that IVDA was in Stoke but it was hard work to persuade people to come!

I think it is hard to find somewhere that is central to all the unis, but it is vital that we get somewhere that everyone can reasonably get to!
