Subject: Denison Leads Canadian over the Bahamas

The Under 21 Canadian national team defeated Bahamas 84-66 in front of 6,000 fans that were at the Halifax Metro Centre home to the Under 21 Tournament of the Americas from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

This was the final game of the first day of competition in the tournament.

Canada dominated from the start thanks to a great and balanced offensive game and a great defensive effort that caused a poor percentage from the field for Bahamas.

The first quarter ended 18-8 in favor of Canada as well as the first half 44-17 thanks to 9 points from Sheray Thomas.

Bahamas recuperated in the second half but was too late in order to be a threat in the game for Canada.

Sean Denison led Canada with 13 points

Canada ended up with a whopping 32 turnovers, 24 of them after the break.

It wasn't the type of basketball Canada wanted to play, coaches and players conceded.

"We're going to have to stop playing the rat-race game with these teams and slow it down to play our game," said (Shelburne native, and Canadian team member Corey) Hallett. Hallett, who logged four points and six rebounds in about 15 minutes of action.

Sean Denison led Canada with 13 points and eight rebounds

Canada plays the Dominican Republic at 8 p.m. tonight. If they win and Argentina beats Bahamas (noon), both squads will be 2-0, clinching medal-round berths and guaranteeing Canada a trip to the under-21 world championships for the first time ever.
