I have since childhood walked on the local moors above Mossley and am extremely familiar with the crash site of the Liberator PB4Y - 163949. I am sure you are equally familiar with Ron Colliers Dark Peak Aircraft Wrecks (Books 1 & 2). Suffice to say I have explored the site on countless occasions and with others (years ago) have extcated Browning Machine Gun, incendiaries, tracer shells including one full ammunition box and lots of single rounds. Only recently I found a quite different and larger warhead than previously - I believe this to be an explosive warhead but I may be mistaken. Yesterday I found a name disc (not a dog tag) one of the crew who actually was not on the final flight. GEORGE SHEELY - one presumes it was attached to some of his personal gear - nevertheless a very interesting find. Regards Terry Eckersley
