Good question,

my father was killed in XH536 and i have spent maby years trying to find out what happened to the wreckage. We moved to australia in 1975, I have returned to Wales several times and sat on the spots(s) the aircraft touched down (exploded).

Funny thing was I was at work talking to a guy that was asking for directions and during our talk I asked him where he was from in the UK, he was born in Hereford and told me he had spent some years in the RAF, during our conversation we talked about airbases etc and jobs he enjoyed or hated and his most blinding memory he recalled standing on some
@#$ing cold arsed mountain in Wales sometime in the mid sixties whilst the choppers picked up what was left of a vulcan from Cottesmore. Talk about being smacked in the face, he went on to tell me it was choppered back to a warehouse where the ministry tried to rebuild what was left and understand the crash - he was posted on guard for some 3 months whilst they stuffed around then took the lot to the scrap heap for disposal after conveniently blaming pilot error. So far as i know thats the truth and he described the events well and I did not tell him it was my dad's wreck till he finished the story as I did not want to prompt him or clam him up.

thanks for your enquiry

cheers

John
