] Date Posted: 08:44:20 03/25/02 Mon Hey all :-) Im a newbie here and a fan of the fly movies. Erm..On "The Fly 2" how come Martin seemed to think like a human even when he was at his fully developed fly-like state? He had plenty opertunities to kill Beth, yet he didn't and he seemed to think and understand like a human would. Yet on "The Fly" his dad couldn't seem to control his actions, he actually was....a fly! lol. Martin just seemed like a freak with the mind of a human. It totally contradicts the first movie and brundle's "insect politics" scene. Thoughts anyone? I'm sorry if Im totally wrong, its probably likely I don't understand it and the movie is actually acurate and I'm just thinking wrong. Seth Brundle's insanity was caused not because "the fly was taking over his mind", as many have said. Biochemical problems were a part of it, but the main reason was that he had to deal with the HORRIBLE things happening to his body, a theme in many Cronenberg films. In Fly II, Martin is born with all of his genetics intact. Seth's condition was the result of an accident, and he became genetically malformed. Martin EVOLVES instead of disintegrating. Yeah, he goes a little off his rocker, but that's natural for his genetics. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 12:32:02 03/25/02 Mon Don't forget that Martin had a higher percentage of human DNA in him than his father did (his mother was human, his father was half-human). Maybe he retained more of a human thought process in his final stage? [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 10:45:12 03/26/02 Tue Yeah, that aspect of THE FLY II is a bit fun (considering that it's just blood-packs and latex, and not real). I remember watching this film late one night (during a "Fly Fest" marathon) and marvelling at how many times in a minute it could make one yell, "Ewwwwww!" As for being incorrect, I thought that THE FLY II was far inferior to THE FLY, and that some bits of it were incorrect. One big difference is the speed of Martin's evolution into Martinfly - it went faster, and less of it occurred on camera. As a result, he didn't look as repulsive as Seth did when he was deteriorating, as when Seth lost his ears and teeth (though the part where Martin pulls off his own eyelid is MIGHTY nauseating...) I also thought that while Martin was appealing enough, he and Beth didn't really connect the way that Seth and Ronnie did, and I didn't feel as sorry for Martin as I did for Seth (feeling sympathy for a character all depends on the actor/actress playing him/her, and Martin didn't seem as miserable over his fate as Seth did). In short, THE FLY II was passable, but nothing compared to THE FLY (I could have just said this sentence and had done with it, but I felt like rambling...) [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 04:10:38 03/27/02 Wed I think "The Fly II" simply just lacks a bit in storyline but attempts to make up for it with its gore and effects. And although its a good movie, it failed. There isn't enough charactor development between Martin and Beth to pass of a love story and without a strong story supporting it the effects are just flat. lol, I think the trailer said enough. "Like father like son" and "Don't be afraid, be very very afraid". A bit corny I'd say. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
