Subject: The Nature of the Beast

Fellow Posters,

The internet is a wild and woolly beast. The anonymity is both freeing and stifling. Users can expand their minds or obssess on minutae.

It is easy to lose yourself in it. There are few consequences to rude or maligning speech. It is easy to lose self-control. It is easy to blunder around like toddlers.

I am JUST as guilty of losing my temper as anyone else here. Many a time Steve Russell could send me into a tizzy with comments to which I took exception.

I realize that it is bad to generalize. Here I go anyway...

It is my personal opinion that most Indian people are emotional and high strung. That is, until old age. Or unless they get a lot of traditional training early on that teach coping skills.

That said.

I say, let's just take a deep breath. It is my belief that Keenhmah just lost her temper and flew off the handle. I'm not excusing anything. I just think that she meant no real harm. I also don't believe that any real harm is being done. Keenhmah is not being perverse or violently hateful. Again, that's just my opinion.

In this instance, I agree with Steve. I do not believe that instituting a password is going to solve this problem or future problems. There is little control any of us have over the internet. If privacy is what you want, sign up for instant messaging. Otherwise, operate within the parameters of a free and chaotic medium.

The internet is a tiger. We have one by its tail. We just have to hang on.

But hey, it ain't my board. Do what you will.
