Subject: tough decision

Just heard the test results from the vet on my old Corgi, Copper Rain. Cushing's Disease.

Treatment will be very expensive.

Untreated, she has 3 months.

Treated, maybe 6 months. There is a slight chance the treatment could kill her if she has a bad reaction or the dosage is off.

She is past the life expectancy for Corgis. She has had a good life. She is deaf and half blind. Her quality of life is not too bad, and will remain about the same treated or untreated. She is in no pain yet. She still loves to walk with me. She is thirsty all the time and has to be crated so she won't pee on the floor.

The death, treated or untreated, will be from multiple organ failures.

I love this animal. The night the EMS took my wife's lifeless body out of my arms I sat on the floor crying holding this dog's furry neck. She used to jog with me when we were both able to jog. She used to swim with me--I once almost lost her over a dam in the Blanco River.

When I got busy and neglected her, she forgave me. She put up with grandchildren pulling her ears. She barked at strangers. When I remarried, she befriended the Afghan Hounds that made our blended family.

She followed me without complaint from Austin to Spring Branch to San Antonio to Bloomington.

She is a good dog.

I don't have the money to treat her but I can borrow it so money is not the issue. I wish I she could talk...

Steve
