Subject: Is this problem with all the models or nly 2001+ and how bog is the chance??? :-(

I am looking to buy a e46 M3 at the moment. Should I just forget it.??
I dont want to have engine faliures on a 1 to 2 year old car that hasn't done more than 50000km
can anyone please tell me if these problems are only with the 2001-2003 models or also the 2000 models.
How big is the chance?
Any one please, I really want to buy it.
