Subject: IS IT SAFE to buy a M3 not from OKT2001-Nov 2002????

Hi guys;

I'm from the Netherlands. I am about to buy a M3 E46. Not a new one because I always wait till some other poor guy buys it and sells it to me after 10 000 km or so. Also because I keep buying a nother car every 2 to 3 months.
ow I'm gonna try the M 3 E46 ( I always buy special cars and this one special car) I have fallin in love with the Poenix Yellow color BMW has presented with this model and the silver color looks good on all cars.
I am not gonna get the SMG2. ( please dont all start getting mad :-) ) I have some good reasons for this but I dont want to start an argue since I know how nuts a lot of you are about this system. I Normally always get automatic drive but thats because I mainly get the very big BMW and MB models or other brands. The M is a 6 shift and just isn't a car for a smooth non bumpy ride where you don't feel anything at all. So therefore its a " lets go racing" car to me and that means manual shifting and stayinmg alert at all times.
I do feel very disappointed to read all the nasty stories about engine faliures on the okt 2001-nov 2002 models. I'll be honest, BMW is getting to me on these kind of issues. Its like the things you never have with MB.
So now I want to know your 100% honest advice . If I watch out for the problem years, how big is the chance of having this engine falure crap with my M ?
I am sure that if this happins there is a big chance I will get it fixed asap and fill the car full with C4 and drive it into BMW headquarters in Germany witch is very close to me. :-)
