Subject: 09/01 SMG 16,000 Km - Nervous but OK so far.

As many have already stated BMW are being irresponsible towards their most loyal consumers - Loyal "M" owners. With this worry unresolved I would have preferred to retain my fantastic E34 M5. That engine was rock solid and never missed a beat! I had concerns with the SMG and peak revs from day 1.I sent letters to BMW about this but just received a pious response. I maintain it is much too easy as a novice to mistakenly touch a paddle or use the "Hill Hold" feature and drop into manual mode unaware. Then roar off at the next lights and hit the redline before you can react. BTW in Oz an optioned E46 M3 is $167,000 compared to the USA this is serious money!

FYI,SMG's here are delivered with 2 risky programs "Launch which launches @ 3500 RPM and even more risky is the "Burnout" program. My point is even if the mighty BMW PR machine cannot accept they goofed owners should at least be receiving a caution letter about these 3 risks to the motor. I would welcome the concept of a modest"fighting fund".Say US$500 each to kick it off so that we could formally place our demands upon BMW well represented. This case would attract so much attention an attorney would offer his services pro bono I am sure.

We love our "M" Cars the way they drive and the prestige that accompanies ownership - we deserve better treatment. Also anyone else embarrassed by the pathetic "warning device"(horn) fitted and the woefull low end exhaust note? My M5 throbbed with power and sounded great at idle.
