Fished out of Dana Point with hd on Wednesday for Calico and Sand Bass, for what turned out
to be another great day hanging out with hd. I read the post regarding the plea for hd to return
to his postings, and of course I too would like to see him come back. We really did not even talk
about the subject that much, however. Instead, we did what many of us truly enjoy and why
we read this Allcoast Board to begin with: Fished and had a hell of a good time doing it.

The boat was set to leave around 7:00 am and it was 6:45 and I was getting a little nervous
because Bruce had not yet arrived. Went to get some coffee when alas, I hear in the
background the huffing and puffing of a man clammering on the docks with a bunch of tackle
gear and equipment skipping along to the boat, then suddenly the boat tilting ever so slightly as
the tackle gear was loaded and placed into position. Without even turning around, I said "hi
Bruce" knowing that my friend had finally arrived. While chatting with him, hd informed me that
since our last trip, he had lightened the load of 105 pound hippo ranger tackle box so it would
be a little bit more manageable. He even invited me to lift it so that I could see for myself. Like
a fool, I fell for the trap, and that hernia I received when I lifted it last time 5 weeks ago came
back as I grunted and groaned trying to get it off the tackle hold. You see, hd's tackle box now
weighs just 92 pounds now.

Off we go and to our shock and surprise we see the same jabbering, mouthy guy that was on
our last trip. His name was Bob and believe me, he could BLAB and BLAB and BLAB. I had
wondered silently to myself who his relatives were. Of course, this didn't faze us and we
actually found it entertaining.

hd is not only a great fisherman, but also has a great sense of humor and does not take things
so seriously. The guy had me in stitches on several occasions, as you probably can imagine. The
results for our trip: I caught 5 fish, kept 3 legal sand bass. hd: limits of sand bass, but hd threw
back probably 3 or 4 sand bass - not because they weren't legal, but because hd thought they
were a little on the small side.

Bruce was kind enough to let me use one of his rods with a Calcutta reel, which allowed me to
cast to the likes that I had never done before. He showed me all sorts of new methods of
tackle and was extremely helpful. Talk about a cool fishing buddy.

We headed for home and hd had me laughing as Bob the Blabber was attempting to engage hd
in small talk. I cannot wait to fish with him again, and plan on adding some new tackle to my
meager collection based upon hd letting me try some of his. As for hd coming back to post on
Allcoast, hopefully he will do it when he's ready. I can assure those who are the anti-hd that he
really isn't loosing any sleep over it.

As we left the boat, hd readied himself for the daunting task of getting his tackle back to the
car. I made sure that I stayed behind him just in case he couldn't make it up the ramp. With a
deep breath, hd scrambled up the ramp, gear and all, like guy you see in the airport carrying a
ton of luggage late for a plane. The faster hd gets is tackle to the car, the less of a chance for
injury. I finally catch up to hd's car (he somehow has convinced the landing to reserve a spot
for him close to the boat - probably they too do not want to see any injury either).

One final note: it should be made clear that hd is a guy who can back up what he says. Take
this from me who has fished twice with him.
