Anyone who is up on trends would have taken notice that most all well-known chain store operations have ceased to carry lava lamps; phased them out. The older generation as well as the now generation are beyond the 60's phase and it's icon. Heads won't find 60's pencil lids on the street for ten dollars either. A huge percentage of health-minded Europeans that left the Soviet Union for America have migrated to Soap Lake; Uranians, Bask and other nationalities now make up a larger portion of Soap Lake, Washington than the few people who want to groove over a lava lamp and call that cool. Soap Lake Chamber Of Commerce would be wise to stop catering to the whims of a few starving artisans and the self-appointed few trying to revitalize Soap by thinking they can turn it into a colony of clones; their standards and design. They have missed the boat, the boat came in with a flood of Europeans while they were asleep in the deep. I fore-see Soap Lake taking on a beloved European tone, one far removed from thinking a 60's icon is cool and groovy. In the very near future of Soap Lake, there will be a Ukranian Mayor, a Council voted in by Ukranians and SLCOC run by Europeans. Sloshing beer and doing drugs won't be so attractive. Nor will a Biker Fest. They will fade away; thank God. Soap Lake needs a overhaul, new healthy image and it is not the Lava Lamp. It will be the quaintness of the European touch that attracts those tourists to Soap Lake. Why do Americans love to travel to Europe? You got it, the Old World flair that is there. The Soap Lake few will soon have to step aside to accomodate the new majority.

Glad you mentioned heads. That reminds me of a comment found in cyber space about the Soap Lake Lava Lamp and stoners. The party was asking why anyone would want a 60 ft.lava lamp and why Soap Lake couldn't think of a better tourist attraction. The party commented, "there must be some old stoners in Soap Lake, Washington." Comment ended with: "Who'll they attract?" "A bunch more old stoners." Fact: City nor majority of citizens were not responsible, nor did they come up with the lava lamp theme. The bearer of the theme has the full weight on their shoulders. City got roped in. Very bad taste.
