In many minds, the giant lava lamp vision is part of the problem, not really a solution. Grant County Journal was blessed with an article written by Burr Beckwith, a Soap Lake resident who has lived in Soap Lake since 1976. Hear some of what he had to say. Speaking in regretful terms, Beckwith surmises that a portion of the interest in the giant lava lamp could be generated by the lava lamp's connection with the drug culture. Another portion may be due to Americans love for the SUPER BIG. Beckworth did not hesitate to speak of the project development problems, ie no money, no property site and no science to support the vision. One of the most important issues Beckwith brought out was that early on during Brent Blake's contacts with the lava pros, Brent was told over and over that it may well be impossible. In spite of this knowledge, Blake kept up flood of publicity going, has seemed to relish more and more of it and still keeps on talking about mazimizing the melane mellifluous giant lava creature of his imagination, sometimes speaking as if it was already built, other times speaking as if it is real, speaking as if it is possible, speaking of it as if it will magically materialize. The there are those other times when he exposes his own doubts, rather pragmatically implying it might never happen; that last thought being closer to the truth than anything else. It is reasonable to think this vision may never be realized.

RE: Comments at witwords.com. written by Mark Bennman are delightfully witty. Besides having a giant lava lamp in middle of street, he proposed that lava lamps could replace all of Soap Lake's street lights. And suggested getting the guru of lava that holds exclusive rights to LAVA(R) to move their enterprise from Chicago to Soap Lake. What an idea. That new decor and lava industry would call for a name change to go with it. Fathom changing the City's name to Haggerty or Lava or Lava Lite City.
