If they are waiting for free money to pour in for that giant lava lamp, they better expect to get hit by lightning first.

{HeraldNet/Verhovek/ portion of report} But the city doesn't have the money to build it. Cost estimates for a lava tower range from $1 million to as much as $25 million. There is widespread hope that a private developer or a philanthropist might like the idea enough to pay for it, but that hasn't happened yet.
And although county and state tourism-development officials say they are willing to offer guidance on Soap Lake's tourism strategy, state or federal funds for a lava lamp "would be pretty difficult to come by, especially in this budget climate," said George Sharp, the tourism development manager in the state's Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development.
The article made referance to a private foundation called SoLaLaLa (for Soap Lake Lava Lamp) that had been formed to solicit funds and maintain the lamp -- if it's built.

The Boston Globe ran a story on the giant lava lamp titled, "Busted city has groovy idea" Eli Sanders,Correspondent refered to Soap Lake as an economically depressed city on the arid plains of eastern Washington. Later adding that the 1970's lava lamp was an icon usually was associated with smoke filled dorms ad far-out fantasies.

Sounds like the lyrics of song by Janis Joplin. "BUSTED FLAT IN SOAP LAKE WAITING FOR THE TRAIN."

SoLa La La Foundation might want to carefully read the PGA mission statement before they ask Paul G. Allen to donate money for the giant lava lamp. The last line says it all......."The foundation invests in effective organizations that address significant community needs, reflect best practices, leverage public and private resources, and contribute to lasting social change."

That idea is one taco short of a combination plate or one fruitloop shy of a full bowl.

The idea of erecting a 60 footer is not even food for thought, it is one feather short of a bird.
