Subject: Hori Lock Key blanks

Hello, I am in the process of cosmeticly refurbusing a Mariner 31 in central FL, If there is anyone whe has a lead on getting any Hori lock key blanks or generic facsimile I would appreciate it.
The other ? I have is has anyone ever beefed up their rudder, when the new owner sea trialed this boat he thought he noticed a lack of response in control when docking and sugested extendeding the trailing edge, providing it does not put too much stress on the rudder post when you factor in weather helm when sailing.I welcome any comments, Respectfully Dennis J Jungers

[> Key blanks -- Mark Smith AEOLUS, - Friday - 03/ 2/07 - 2:44pm

Don't know if this will help or not Dennis but some 20yrs. ago I had a local locksmith make me a spare key. The blank says its from the "Independent Lock Co." out of Fichville Mass. blank #888. Don't know what to tell you about the rudder, I've always found that the 4-107 offset the slow response factor of the Mariner's in tight quarters. But you're right in that there's not much conrol moving backwards until you get moving. Aeolus is in Palm Harbor where is Manitou?

[> [> [> CINDY, WELCOME TO THE CLUB! -- Randall, - Tuesday - 04/10/07 - 9:08pm

Cindy, welcome to the club!

As you may know, being a Far East Mariner owner comes with special privileges, all of which accrue immediately to new members of the Mariner Owners Association organization.

These privileges include:

*Priority access to the fine yacht of your choice (yours). Nights and weekends included, no extra fee. No call ahead necessary. No black out dates enforced.

*The freedom to disembark the marina at will without any special paperwork. Security protocols and mandatory customs inspections are waived for owners.

*Complimentary maintenance and upgrades for as long as you own your Mariner—all you need do is supply the materials and the labor.

*Free technical support provided by our highly qualified and thoroughly screened yachting professionals via the Mariner Owners Bulletin Board. You ask and they respond (boy howdy)!

*Free listing service at www.marineryacths.com.

*Free drinks coupons for use at the club bar. To request your drinks coupons simply fill out the form on the MOA site under the tab "Booze Booze Booze" or send an email to info@marineryachts.com with "Man, I need a beer!" in the subject line.

*Free wind, free blue sky, free sunsets, and the unlimited admiration of other yacht owners.

Enjoy!

[> key / rudder -- Randall, Murre, M31, - Friday - 03/ 2/07 - 3:23pm

I've got the old HORI key too. Have tried many locksmiths in San Francisco, but none have the same style blank. Will probably need to bust out the latch when this key goes in the drink.

---

I've always thought the rudder on Murre looks larger than the rudder in the M31 drawings AND as if the trailing edge has been extended 3" or so at the top to as much as 6" at the bottom. Don't know if mine is unusual OR the drawings not accurate to what was produced by Far East.

I agree w/Mark's response. The 4107, especially w/a three blade prop, has the power to offset a lot of low speed maneuvering issues. But she's never going to steer like fin keel boat.

[> [> Hori Lock Key Blanks -- Doug Wilson ,Cactus Tree, - Saturday - 03/ 3/07 - 12:06am

The former owner of Cactus Tree found a locksmith in the L.A. area to make another key, so they can be found. He also wanted to save the original lockset.
Cactus Tree has a 12x7 LH two blade sailor, and the 4-107,
seems to handle allright for me.
Randall, Murre's rudder is the same as Cactus Tree.
Doug.

[> mine was made -- Greg M31 #121, - Sunday - 03/ 4/07 - 1:34pm

When I bought my boat I had no key, so I took the lock to a locksmith and he made one out of a blank that was close to the profile of the lock work like a charm.

[> [> Hori Lock Co., Japan -- Will M31 "Salvia", - Tuesday - 05/22/07 - 11:44am

Dear Mr. Holoman:
Thank you for your inquiry regarding our key blanks.
Although we stock a limited number of old key blanks (our locks which were used in boats typically date back to the 70’s), they are not released outside the company. If you can advise us of the number stamped on the key, or better still, attach a clear image of the actual key including the number, we can check to see if code cutting is still possible.
The price, depending on key type, will most likely be JPY 800 to JPY 1200 yen (~$10)per key. It should be ready in about three to five working days after confirmation of your remittance by Telegraphic Transfer, and will be mailed to you via Express Mail Service (EMS).
Please note that the only method of payment for overseas orders that we’re able to accept is by Telegraphic Transfer (full payment in advance) and unfortunately, there is a bank service fee of JPY 2500 yen (~$20)per transfer which we must charge along with the EMS S&H fees.
With regard to your request for dealer referral, we’re afraid that we are your only source since our products are made for the domestic market and we do not have any dealers overseas.
We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation regarding these matters.
Best regards,
K. Watanabe
