Subject: headsails

Has anyone rigged their M40 with a jib and staysail?
My M40 has a very large roller furling headsail ( 150) which is nice in the lighter winds but obviously overpowered in a good breeze taking the rail under more than it needs to go.
Wanted to get feedback on this cutter configuration from anyone who has made this change or has this rig as to the vessels performance with a jig and staysail

Thanks ... CaptnG

Hey CaptnG, we on Maranatha our 32' mariner re-rigged her with a stay sail that's club footed and the jib being a yankee jib at about 110%. Between the two sails we still carry about the same square feet of head sail, but lowering the center of gravity. Less heeling in heaver blows, and then we can roll in the yankee and keep the stay sail up. We have aluminum spars, so we had a tab welded on the mast before we had them all repainted. The sailmaker said the stay is small so we didn't need running back stays. Light air days we can move the staysail and rig the 150% genny. Hope this was a help, Jake.
