The Tom Petty estate ended up being the last plaintiff standing. Unfortunately, the Judge ruled against the Estate.
As a fan, the worst result of this decision is that UMG will never be forced to give a full accounting and inventory of what was destroyed and what survived the fire.

Due to the fact that so much time has transpired, it would be in the best interest of all concerned if S.H. was allowed to
tell all, without any fear of lawsuit or worse, and explain just exactly what he may have in his own archive.

If he has either analogue safety copies made in the mid 1980's, or digital transfers of many other Holly classics made at the same time as the amazing CD he produced, all fans could rejoice at the quality of new high resolution discs that could be offered of the rest of the Holly legacy.

As I said previously, this would be a fantastic way to celebrate the opening of the Buddy Holly Hall For The Performing Arts.

UMG could even get on board and exonerate S.H. by thanking him for saving such important historic pop culture from ruin.
