The thing that really annoys me about Dion's "version" is that it implies Buddy would look after his fellow stars before he'd look after his friends. Beyond Dion sounding stupid to those who know the real story, he is making Buddy sound like a bit of a jerk. As I mentioned in my previous reply, when you're on the road, you look after your bandmates (who are often also your friends) first.

Are we really supposed to believe he'd offer Dion a spot before he'd offer one to Tommy, with whom he'd toured and recorded previously or, more outrageously, Waylon? He hand picked Waylon, with whom he went back several years, to join his band, let Waylon stay with him in New York, and was planning to take him to the UK as an opening act.

Dion did tell the story a few times while Tommy and Waylon were still alive, but it was rare. To be fair, with the Internet we now have more opportunities for him to talk about it, but his telling of the story has ramped up disproportionately in the last decade or so. I found it funny that when Jessi sold a whole lot of Waylon's stuff in 2014 or so, a warm and friendly letter from Dion was included. He clearly considered Waylon a friend, yet he effectively claims Waylon lied for decades -- and wrote songs about -- one of the most pivotal moments of his life?

Please.
