Dale,
I don't seem to be able to write to you directly and I realise this is not the right place to be discussing the Beatles so sorry to 50s fans

Abbey Road is my fave Beatles album and one of the first CDs I bought but I also recently bought the remixed remaster and have to say it sounds great. The original 1987 CD sounded good, their best sounding album, but this is better.

There will always be these who prefer the originals, such as music fans who prefer original mono mixes to stereo ones

Only last week I played Revolver and have to say the stereo mix is terrible

As you probably know the way they recorded at that time was to record instruments on the 4 tracks and then bounce this down to one mono track on another 4 track tape and then they had a further 3 tracks to record vocals and other instruments

The result was a mess, one generation removed, of mono (the original 4 tracks) in one speaker complete with overdubs then others spread
across the sound spectrum sounding like overdubs

Neither of us have yet heard how the 'new' Revolver sounds so we will have to wait and see but imho it can only be an improvement

I also understand this process has been used to some time to create new Beach Boys stereo mixes (?)
.
