 I've been hearing more lately about the new Ritchie Valens movie, the "La Bamba" remake. I guess this means production is beginning. I haven't seen any news about casting, though.

Also, this is news to me, but six years ago someone made a documentary about the Big Bopper. It's called "Bopper & Me" and its trailer is on youtube.
