Elise,

I am very sorry to hear about your daughter's struggle with this terrible steriod side effect!! As a person who lives on steroids, and has been for 4 yrs straight (on and off for 8 yrs), I have learned that doctors in the ER will give whatever dose of steroids THEY feel is appropriate to get the patient out of crisis, long term side effects don't matter to them AT ALL!!! That being said...when it comes to long term steroid use, my doctors have been more up front about the dangers of staying on higher doses (which is why I am also on a chemo medication to help me lower my dose of prednisone). Unfortunately, it seems like for your daughter, the high doses of solu-medrol she received in the hospital were enough to cause this rampage on her bones...another unfortunate fact is that there is not much out there to replace steroids (if a strong anti-inflammatory is necessary, steroids are it for now).

Please feel free to email me anytime on here or privately if you want to talk, or have any questions!!

I really hope your daughter heals well and doesn't ever require steroids again!!

Ivy
