Subject: Curious about Adrenal Crisis

Hi, I had posted before about my problems tapering off prednisone. When I went from 2.5 mg step down to zero, after 3-4 days of feeling terrible, the facial paralysis returned..soo back to 2.5 mg..paralysis recedes. So I try to taper again more gradually, this time to 1.5mg, then less than 1mg. Then I get what I think is a chest cold - wheezing, shortness of breath, painful coughing with phlegm. Go to walk in clinic last Sunday to get antibiotics. Doc listens to my lungs - sounds bad. Takes x-ray - lungs full of "fluffy" something or other. She recommends hospital! Ugh..ok...Go to the hospital (yet again this year), more x-rays, clueless interns, overworked nurses. I end up on the dialysis floor somehow. No antibiotics, no real help or treatment (save some breathing treatments). The young docs decide to end the prednisone. Ugh..terrible withdrawls, vomiting, loss of apetite, lethargy, feel like crawling out of my skin, nausea, can barely put a sentence together. Well I get out of there finally, go home, see my Sarcoid specialist the next day...

Well at least she gives me an antibiotic prescription. Otherwise she suggests that all these problems are partly self induced from panic attacks (!) and that I need to get active and stop being pre-occupied with my health. Whatever! (OK, may be some value in that advice, but I can not fake facial paralysis and fever!)

Anyway, the whole point of my post is...what is Adrenal Crisis as related to prednisone w/d? Is it something that can happen if one stops taking prednison too abruptly? What does it do? Symptoms? Just wondering if my chest problem was related/sparked by Adrenal Crisis?

ps. I am DONE with prednisone..zero mg at 5 days and counting!!
