Stephie,

I do know quite a bit about steroid psychosis, as my cousin had it after a round of steroid injection into his neck. He, too, was paranoid and extremely angry. Thankfully, the side effects DO GO AWAY!!! The longer she is off the steroids the better she will become. Make sure she drinks plenty of fluids, as part of the steroid withdrawals she may have some muscle aches. Also, I definitely understand about being angry at docs misdiagnosing/mistreating this kind of reaction. When I was first put on steroids for "asthma", I was also given xanax and paxil, which caused a psychosis in me. I became suicidal and EXTREMEMLY anxious!! I live on steroids now, so I know it was the combo of meds that did it, and not the steroids themselves. Your daughter should have it posted on medical charts in BIG letters that she is NOT to be given steroids again...not even in a cream or nose spray...they can soak into the skin and cause another reaction.

Honestly, there are times when steroids are necessary evils...and all too often docs hand them out they are candy, and not serious drugs. Unfortunately, your daughter got a doc that not only gave it out too soon, but also did not know the potential side effects/drug interactions. Changing doctors would be priority #1 if at all possible!!!

I am wishing you and your daughter the BEST of luck!! Please feel free to write anytime!!

Ivy
