Subject: Yet another kink in yet another plan...

So after yet another flare up this past weekend, and taking tegretol (with it helping to open my vocal cords but not my more "asthma" symptoms) I only had to bump up 5 more mg of prednisone (which is really not that much for me...usually I would have had to bump up at least 10-15 to get out of an attack before the tegretol was added on). So now I am up to 70 mg of prednisone. When I called my rheumatologist this morning to tell him of my flare-up I also told him of this weird rash I have had for the past 2 weeks (well before the addition of the Arava "steroid-sparing" drug that I started 5 days ago). He told me to go to a dermatologist right away to make sure it is not a drug reaction. So my dermatologist fit me in today (AMAZING office staff!!), and told me that it is in fact a drug reaction...to the TEGRETOL...the one medication that is NOT a steroid that HELPS my throat open up!! I am NEVER allowed to take that medication again he tells me!! He said that it builds up in the body and it can cause WORSE reactions...that I am LUCKY to be on 70 mg of prednisone because it is keeping the allergic reaction at bay!! He told me to ask my doctor for an alternative...FABULOUS news...

I spoke with my rheumatologist like 5 times today LOL...he did call in a new medication for me...this one is a muscle relaxant called baclofen (I take a muscle relaxant every night, but it is weaker, apparently). I will try it...I am only supposed to take it when I am in a "vocal-cord" or trigeminal neuralgia flare-up...

It just seems like whatever works for me is not good for me...I just don't get it...oh...and this rash can take 2-3 weeks to go away...fun stuff I tell ya LOL! *sigh*
