I have been on prednisone, an oral steroid, for 5 years full time, 4 years before that on and off, so that's 9 years total...long time (too long!!). I know the terrible things it can do to the body, and to the mind. I am truly sorry you and your husband are going through such a difficult time..but since he is off the drug and seeking treatment, it will get easier!! The longer it is out of your system, the better!! The body is an amazing mechanism and it recovers quite well, even after all the abuse steroids inflict. My rheumatologist also called steroids the "atom bomb" of drugs...thankfully, I am able to FINALLY start lowering my dose...I am down from 80 mg to 12.5 mg WAHOO! (The body NORMALLY makes 7.5 mg of cortisol by the adrenal glands, so we are hoping I can get below 7 mg to test whether mine pick up again after all these years :) ).

I am sure your husband will continue to improve the longer he is off the steroids...remember, the body heals itself! :)
