Sounds like Steroid psychosis and it will reverse when the steroids are out of his system. His dose was not that high and not for that long so it shouldn't take too long a week or two maybe less to be back mentally to normal. I would consider taking him to the ER just because you need a secong opinon. Doctors that cause steroid related problems often are not forthcoming and may want you to stay away from a doctor (and the medical documentation) that may show what their treatment
did. Withdrawal should be done under a doctor's care but I would ask if alternate day therapy may
reduce the side-effects. You can find medical articles in the "more Links" section and answers to frequently asked questions in the FAQ section.
I suggest asking the doctor if he can either get off them (he has not been on them that long (or if he can do alternate day therapy. Yes, they can get angrt and get violent but if he hasn't shown signs of it by now he may not get that part of it
