Brother Akintiunde, it took me so many nights of reading over and over other eintou submissions, before i understood the form to try my own. by that time you had left the group. i wanted to thank you for helping me expand my knowledge. this is the first draft. i don't believe in doing a lot of revisions, at times it takes away from the real feeling behind the writing. up front notes "empire" is 3 syllables, the way i speak. yvonne felt i didn't need the 2 second eintou, too telling (she was a positive voice behind this also). i appreciate your reading this. and thank you again for continuing to open my eyes.

Eulogy for Bubba

brother,
you and i were
to build an empire
based on friendship and loyalty.
but, they came for me first
and locked me in
this cell.

now i
sit here weeping
apologizing, that
on that fatal night i was not
there, in your time of need,
having your back.
i'm here.

no way
to touch your box,
saying goodbye, to you.
no way i could escape this cell,
to be the first to cast
the dirt, and say
goodbye.
