Subject: I gotta disagree on one point, remember in Ready or Not, Harm questioned AJ's decision before they reached the courtroom too, so IMHO both Mac & Harm had problems with the other being assigned Judgeship over the other. I have other issues as well, which I'll post inside, but first let me say that I really expected more from a Sweeps ep, this one to me was lacking, & not the kind of fireworks that some expected to see...I think the ratings (weren't they down, I know AI beat JAG badly again) reflected that this wasn't much of an ep, for Sweeps that is...okay inside...

I don't think Mac was wrong at all to question Harm's questioning of the witness. Sure Judge's will ask questions for clarity only, not start cross examining a witness to probe for answers, which is what IMHO Harm was doing. Sturgis said he reserved the right to recall the witness, and instead of GIVING Sturgis the chance later on, Harm had to conduct his own cross examination, in defense attorney mode, not Judge mode. A Judge is supposed to be a sort of referee, to sit and listen, and Harm should've waited until Sturgis had recalled the witness and asked what he wanted, Sturgis was defense counsel, not Harm, instead of conducting his own cross.

I think Harm was a little too casual on the bench. His "let's roll," "sure come on up" and his way casual approach when Mac wanted him to inform the members of a ruling (I think a wave of his hand and instead of addressing the Jury he dismissed her and told her they know its noted or something like that) was just not respectful of the position that Harm had been given. I also have a real problem with Harm being the one to figure out what happened and then "finding" away to tell Mac, it wasn't Mac's responsibility to clear the pilot, it was Sturgis', and I'm kind of surprised that with all the talk of the generator being broken that Sturgis didn't pick up on this. Anyway, Harm acts as investigator and solves the case, and it just wasn't right. Which leads me to conclude some lawyers just aren't cut out to be Judges, and Harm is one of them. Now, before I get jumped on, let me say this.....

Harm is a fighter, he wants and needs the truth to come out at all costs. He wants to be in the thick of things, and he is far better suited to be in front of the bench than behind it....

Even though I am a huge Mac fan, she doesn't come away unscathed either. I didn't like how Mac over-reacted, she was so sure that Harm was going to "pay her back" that she did lose focus. I think it was a good thing that she stepped back and let Bud handle some questioning, and that she finally sucked it up and dealt the hand that she'd been given. I loved it when Bud very non confrontational put Mac in her place, he made sure she knew she was being petty without slamming her head against the wall...I wish Mac could've recognized that Harm as also in a bad position given the fact that the SECNAV was so heavily er shall we say promoting the outcome of the case. Harm bent over backwards to make sure the pilot got a fair trial, and he was biased against Mac. She was right in her assumption, she just should've handled herself better IMHO....

It took Coates telling Harm he was favoring the defense (you notice Harm didn't deny it) before I think Harm took a look at himself and what he'd been doing, and after this little revelation by Coates, Harm started sustaining some of Mac/Bud's objections, because I think he really listened to what Coates had to say. That's a good thing, Harm was thinking and he was mature enough to take Coates' constructive criticism and apply it to his Judgeship, which in the end made him a better Judge than when he started.

Again, neither Mac or Harm had really great moments. They both ran hot and cold in this ep, and while it was okay, it really wasn't what I expected for February Sweeps.

Reading the post above on DB and his actor's performances, I wonder if both actors did convey properly what was written in this ep, and maybe because of this the fans saw things a totally different way than DB intended....
