Her face against his shoulder, his amid her hair, deep in the sweet perfume of the golden waves, he paused, motionless in the first moment of absolute eden, moved by the sudden strange realization of what it might feel like to be in the arms of someone he could easily love for the rest of his days.
Committment was still scary but with her steady warmth and unshaken love beneath him he could almost imagine it. Almost understand the appeal of taking one mate and loving her with all he had in him.
A dark and rotten heart, full of holes and hard spots, like putrid old cheese. That's what he had in him. And yet she loved him and wanted what he had to give. How strange. How beautiful. How comforting.
Nuzzling against her silken gold to draw himself out of stillness, he forgot all about their destination, their surroundings, and stinky cheeses as he moved against her welcoming hips with a slow strength, back and forward again as he caressed light kisses to her temple.
