please do start an arguement tim, i believe that it is only through debates and expressing different points of views that a truly democratic society can b achieved. This is the very reason why i feel that the BNp should be able to have thier say and Paxman and co. ( i too watched that interview) must stop worrying about being ridiculously politically correct and allow all voices to be heard, though i do admit i was offended and disgusted at the BNP's suggestion of segregation in Oldham and application of a version of the apartite system and the discouragement of mixed race relationships.

"Many have left behind lives of relative luxury and wealth to live in relative poverty but security"

I fell i have to explain myself when i made this statement. As i have already sed, this is not by any means always true and there are immigrants who do end up better off in this country than in their country of origin. There are also immigrants who choose Britain because they see it as an "easy" alternative from earning a life elsewhere. However, especially in the case of political refugees, these are people who have had good education, degrees and high status jobs, such as business owners and doctors etc. These occupations would have paid well and allowed them to live independently and well. In fleeing a country, all this, money in the bank, investments etc is lost. U have to remember how desperate these people must b if they are willing to risk lives by packing themselves in artight truck to start again from scratch in a brand new country. In Britian, they are dependent on the system and though all needs are catered for, they have just enough to live on, no more. That is why i must emphasise the word "relative" in my sentence. They are not poor in the true sense of the word, but they have suffered severe lost i n comparison to the life they had before. After all, who would consciously choose to leave behind a life of stabilty and security to start all over again if they were not forced to? ( i accept that there are exceptions!)

Now tyrone's point. The policies u quote from the BNP sound fair and acceptable. They make sense. It certainly explains why people choose to support the BNP. After all supporters of the BNP are no longer staunch anachronisms but are younger, proffesional and intellectual people. I agree that the media has demonised the BNP, I certianly have not read anywhere else about the policies that u mentioned, which seems to cast a more favourable light on the BNP. But i must question why this is the case, why is the the media so reluctant to make the BNP more acceptable and why are they so adamant to demonise it?

I must say, i am inclined to agree with the policies mentioned because they do make a lot of sense, however, wot about the banners stating "preserve our britishness" etc. This approach seems to be far less rational. Could it be that it is not the actual BNP who r responsible for the race riots as the media suggests but the misinterpretation of what the BNP stands for, which is the fault of the media. Haivng painted the BNP as a rascist party, less enlightend members of the public vote for the party and see it as an excuse to cause trouble. Similarly, ethnic minorities protest against the BNP for this very reason and take to the streets. Whatever it is, violence is definately not the answer.

Meanwhile, tyrone is rite, we can only wait and c. Only then will we kno.
