I never read any criticism of the melody or the art of lyric.
Your point is interesting considering that punk undoubtably owns some of the worst singers of all time, in my humble opinion (i am an experienced musician, performer and writer of music). The inability to sing seems to be a requirement to sing in a punk band. Those 'Punk-O-rama' CDs confirm as much.

Also rarely does punk ever have good lyrics ('fuck a dog in the ass' anyone?). Punk lyrics are almost unexceptionally niave. A fact that is unlikely to improve; it is likely that most punks would snort at the words 'Poetic devices', a fact that is saddening. The potential for punk lyrics are generally not high.
