This is why I love The Living End so much; they almost satyrise punk music. Cheney is an excellent singer, virtuoso guitarist and has an appreciation for political and poetic lyricism.
I think the only reason punk will be around forever, is because it is the most minimalist form of guitar music. Maybe that sounds obvious, but talent will only prevail for a short amount of time. In Dylan's era, people tried to emulate him, realised they couldn't, and said "bollocks to it". Same goes with Jimmy Page; people suddenly wanted to become godlike guitar players, and failed. Then the punk movement came, and apart from being a rebellion of the musical virtuosity of previous epochs, it became an excuse simply to jump on stage without any musical experience and to get away with it. And this is why punk will last forever, because it saves people the bother of having to become musically accomplished. Although I'm told there are some very good punk drummers.
