Subject: Retainer and significant "thspeetch" problem

I just had partial braces removed today and was told to wear my retainer day and night. I have significant speech issues now that I have this glob of smooth acrylic on the roof of my mouth.

Is this par for the course? Is it a poorly designed retainer? Does an Invisalign retainer have the same drawback? Dr. Rick or retainer veterans, please let me know.

Thank you!
