I had a molar extracted less than a week ago, and the extraction site bled for several hours. You can also bite down on a wet tea bag to help stop the bleeding. Don't drink from a straw or rinse your mouth for the first 24 hours because you might dislodge the blood clot. You can start rinsing with warm salt water after 24 hours.
