I'm not Dr. Rick, but that's a very interesting question!
You hear all about teeth relapsing, but that's usually the crookenness. You don't hear much about teeth actually going back up into the jaw (although I don't think too many people have to deal with that).
I wonder if bonded retainers could help with that, since they actually have a grip on the tooth.
If it bugs you, though, and doesn't go up any further, you may be able to have your other canine shaved down to match the one that has 'retruded'.
