Today I scheduled a consult for my niece to make sure there weren't any problems with her Sponge Bob front teeth. She was a little nervous but came through okay and won't need braces for now. Anyway, I was going to accompany my sister into the consult when the assistant asked if I just wanted to do my appointment now rather than wait an hour. The ortho told the assistant to take off the figure eight ligatures and replace it with a molar to molar power chain, ditch the cross-bite elastic and take an impression for a lower permanent retainer...yup in four weeks I will be free of my braces! I had almost forgotten how nasty Alginate feels in and around the brackets. *sigh* I'm still picking the stuff out. Next time they are also going to shave between my two lower incisors to make sure they will stay together in harmony forever. The assistant had them note a fast turn around for the upper retainer since having the permanent bonded will give them plenty of time to make an Essix so I won't have to come back later to get it. The only people that know are my sister and niece and she's still decompressing from her fear of seeing the big bad docter and having an X-ray taken of her head. Hope things are progressing nicely for the rest of you!
